Rules
Same Picture Hunt was one of the classic death matches of The Genius. A board of 16 panels showed letters on the front and hid 16 different pictures behind them. Each player had a conveyor belt filled with picture cards: three shuffled sets of the same 16 pictures. To move your piece one step towards the finish, you had to find the picture on the next card of your belt among the panels. A right answer let you move on and look again. A wrong one moved your belt back a step, a new card was added to it, and your turn ended. The first player to reach the finish won.
Our version
- 16 panels, A to P, each hiding a different picture. A flipped picture shows for a moment to both players, then the panel closes again.
- Each player’s belt starts with 8 pictures to find (in Season 4 the players started 8 steps from the finish). The belts are in plain sight.
- Right picture: that card leaves your belt and you flip again.
- Wrong picture: one card is added to the end of your belt, up to 12, and the turn passes. The picture you need stays the same.
- The first to clear their belt wins. A coin flip decides who starts.
- Each flip has 20 seconds (30 against the easy AI). Running out of time counts as a wrong flip.
- Solo: clear a belt of 10 pictures on your own against the clock. Wrong flips add a card.
- Recent flips (a setting, on by default) lists the last four flips under the panels.
Strategy
Watch every flip. Your rival’s misses are free information. Each picture they uncover is one you may need later.
Flip new panels first. When you do not know where your picture is, flip a panel nobody has opened. Flipping a known panel teaches you nothing.
Read both belts. Your belt and your rival’s are in plain sight. If their next picture is one you both know, expect them to take it.
Use runs. Late in the game you know most of the board. A turn can then clear several cards in a row, so a few early misses are not the end.
